You Ask … who is Jim Shackelford & the reason for this webblog?
Hi and welcome to my webblog. Most of you reading this are in or connected with law enforcement. If that is the case take pride in that position. I personally invite you to become a regular visitor & communicator with me through this avenue of communication.
NOW … WHO AM I?
I’m a Buckeye! That means I was born and raised in Ohio. Met my wife, Jan of 45 years and had our three children in Ohio. Before moving to Florida I was an Ohio State Trooper followed by being a minister in Ohio, PA and here in Florida. My love for law enforcement came from being a trooper – something I wanted to be since the age of six. I firmly believe being a good police officer is a high calling of God. I’m proud to say our two sons have followed in my footsteps and are serving their communities as Police Motorcycle Officers. Our daughter is a great teacher in a Lake Worth elementary school.
Nearly 12 years ago I formed the Chaplaincy program at Palm Beach Gardens Police Dept. and presently serve as their volunteer Chaplain as well as one of several chaplains with the Palm Beach County Sheriffs Office. I am blessed by having the opportunity to serve in this capacity. The main reason for this webblog is to connect with those in law enforcement. I attend the yearly ICPC (International Conference of Police Chaplains) for up to date information and training. I have also been trained and certified in Critical Incident Stress Management.
For fun and relaxation I spend quality time with my wife. I also cherish the fact that I am able to ride my Harley which is a passion of mine. An extension of that passion is the Glory Riders Motorcycle Ministry of Palm Beach Gardens Christ Fellowship. I also am blessed by an annual bike (motorcycle) ride with my sons. Jan and my favorite vacation getaways? Cruising … not on my Harley but on a huge cruise liner.
So now you know a little about me. I invite you, should you feel free in doing so, tell me a little about you. Thanks for taking your time to read this and I trust you will be encouraged by upcoming articles, discussions, comments and even humor. I also invite you to tell others about Chaplain Jim’s Webblog.
